The following instructions should be followed closely except when overruled by specific procedural instructions:
TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO SURGERY
- NO ASPRIN or medicines that contain aspirin as it interferes with normal blood clotting.
- NO NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, Aleve) as it interferes with blood clotting
- You MAY take Tylenol or generic forms of this drug.
- AVOID vitamins and supplements
- NO SMOKING. Nicotine reduces blood flow to the skin and can cause complications during your recovery.
ONE WEEK PRIOR TO SURGERY
- DO NOT drink alcohol or take any illicit substances for 24 hours prior as these can interfere with anesthesia and affect blood clotting.
- DO NOT take any cough or cold medications without permission. Be sure to report any sights of cold, infection, boils or pustules appearing before surgery.
- ARRANGE FOR a responsible adult to drive you to and from the facility on the day of surgery. You will not be able to leave on your own nor will a cab or bus driver be allowed to take you home from surgery.
- ARRANGE FOR a responsible adult to spend the first 24 hours with you. You cannot be left alone directly after surgery.
- If you’re on regular medications, please clear these with the prescribing doctor.
NIGHT BEFORE & MORNING OF SURGERY

- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that do not have to be put on over your head. We suggest a button-up top and pull on pants. You will want shoes that are easy to slip on.
